I just bought a house in Mirehaven so I’m far from expert. What I liked was climate, generally low housing prices, decent number of city-type amenities, and the ability to live in an over-55 community. What I’m concerned about are access to health care, recreational and entertainment options (is there a good jazz club in the area?), and access to off-leash dog areas.

Check out the Outpost, plenty of jazz although you may not have heard of most of the artists. Well worth attending and supporting.

Thanks, looks interesting. But it looks like they don't serve food or wine? Is that normal for a performance space here?

Outpost has coffee and cookies, that sort of thing. People come to listen. There are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. The rock clubs all have booze and one or two, like Sister, have good bar food. The KiMo and the Hispanic Center see some top acts, they are auditoriums with limited booze and snacks. Same with the Lensic in Santa Fe. There is a beef & booze place called the Cooperage that had been getting some decent acts, but only once in a while and not much lately.

In general, name musical acts are not booked into places here with sit-down meals and drink. Even in L.A. (my hometown) that sort of thing is fading away. There is nothing like, say, Catalina's or Blue Note here.

I'd say your experience is vastly different than mine. I've been to lots of jazz clubs and concert halls and they almost always served wine and cocktails along with some upscale munchies. The only exceptions I can recall were for teen hangouts and church spaces and even those often had wine and beer.

We like that the community is close to town and the airport. The homes are beautiful. There seems to be a great deal of building going on in that area.

I would like to hear from anyone living in that area. Pro's/Con's. My husband lived in Albuquerque in the 80's when he was doing his residency and loved it. He has always wanted to come back. We have decided that Albuquerque is where will move. We are currently in WV. He will retire soon. I will still be working when we move. I am a Family Nurse Practitioner.

I am looking for any input from people who live in the area. I appreciate all input. Thank you!
My wife and I have lived in Rio Rancho for 20 years. She originally was a Federal Employee, and took a prommotion/Job Transfer out here. We are about 2 miles from the Albuquerque border. We have family which followed us out. We are both now retired. We have decided to stay in New Mexico. My wife is from WV...

Good luck to you!

The Outpost is the only place I am aware of that is pretty much all jazz all the time. Other venues may offer jazz along with other music performances. I think that reflects that ABQ is not a huge jazz center and we are, by comparison, not a real big city (900K-1M in the metro area)

The New Mexico Jazz Workshop sponsors a series of concerts over the summer at a variety of venues, including the outdoor theater behind the Albuquerque Museum.

Bigger name jazz artists sometimes appear at the Kimo, Albuquerque Civic Auditorium, Lensic (in Santa Fe), at one of the nearby casinos and a few other places.

Some of the larger venues may offer drinks in the lobby at intermission but, unless you're going to a bar-type club, that's about it. FWIW, we had season ticket to the Paradise Theater Jazz Series at Orchestra Hall in Detroit for 12-13 years. The only available drinks there were in the lobby during intermission.

Too bad no one mentioned Luna county where the land is inexpensive and crime is low along with costs to live here. Weather is great and views are fantastic.
