Oh, but I do all too well, Rybert. That's why I've called you down on several
occasions.
This is not about liking or disliking a particular area, ort about expressing an
honestly help opinion, it is about people like Rybert who have a LONG
history of making snide comments about anyone who
a) lives in Rio Rancho
b) Asks questions about living in Rio Rancho
c) God help them says that they LIKE Rio Rancho
d) .... well, it just goes on and on...
If there is a desire to suppress opinions here, it comes from the clique of RR bashers
who constantly belittle those who choose to live somewhere other than Nob Hill.
As I said "Juvenile"...
Towanda, nothing I said was aimed at you. I can see how you might have interpreted
it that way, but that wasn't my intent.

Whoa, Mike!
My opinion of RR is formed greatly from my views on sustainablility, peak oil, land use, etc. None of which the city scores particularly high on. The general attitude from some RRs concerning ABQ is a little annoying as well... not giving the maternal city her rightful credit and respect. Aside from that, RR is a nice little burb.
Wait, I don't even live in Nob Hill... must be the other rybert.
Like I've said before... the goals of ABQ and those of RR are not aligned.
Mike, I couldn't agree more. I tried to give you rep points, but....
Thanks, Cathy.
It's one thing to bring up a particular concern or series of concerns in response to
questions, it's another thing entirely to constantly take swipes at a location and
especially those who choose to live there just to assume an online mantle of
presumed cultural superiority.

Then you must be of the same opinion on
pretty much anything North of Osuna and East of Tramway.
(I don't know because you've never said.)
Tanoan and N. Sandia Acres must be really repugnant.
After having lived in Chandler for about eight years, RR
isn't any different. Lots o' people want and like that style.
I find it interesting that people not living in RR decry the sprawl
and people living there decry how close together the housing is.
It's only sprawl when it's someone else's house.
I bought an existing house, but it was raw desert in 1995.
If I lived in Nob Hill, it would be the same thing, but "in 1925."
People, once born, have to live somewhere.
When it is no longer the norm to congratulate people on their
third or higher numbered kid, then sprawl will stop. Until then,
it goes on indefinitely.

FWIW - China is down to one kid and they aren't exactly welcoming immigrants. They still have a lot of people down on the farm.
To make this relevant I don't really like suburbs, although I live in one, or central cities. I am trying for an isolated place near enough to a small city to make grocery getting relatively easy. Neither Rio Rancho or Albuquerque would suite me.

Ka ching!!! population control...yes! Maybe if people were responsible for financially taking care of their own families instead of relying on financial assistance from fed, state and local governments, they would think twice about constant pregnancy. Only a change of attitude towards responsibility for your own family will change everything else. People should not breed like rabbits....Oops...off topic.....

Kinda, but kinda --> not.
Population growth drives Albuquerque's growth as well as Rio Rancho's.
Those cities' growth is not primarily due to people reproducing
here, but reproducing elsewhere and moving here.
Even the US taken as a whole is not really growing all that fast
anymore via reproduction.
Most of our growth is coming from places where they get no
public assistance for children, but still think it's smart to have
five or more sprog.
Ever watch the depressing news on TV from Pakistan and such?
Listen carefully and people interviewed will try to gain sympathy
due to the fact that six of their twelve offspring are missing or
that it's hard to keep rounding up the eight or ten progeny every
time they have to make a move.
We could go to 'China rules' and still suffer from "sprawl" for as
long as we all shall live.
Rio Rancho isn't going anywhere.
I also don't think peak oil has much to do with Rio Rancho.
Those commutes, bad as they are for Albuquerque simply don't
compare with most people's commutes in most parts of the country.
