Default Let's Talk About Albuquerque's Neighborhoods

What is your impression of Albuquerque's neighborhoods?

What is the biggest misconception about the neighborhood you live in?

The biggest misconception about the Student Ghetto is that only students (and student aged) people live there. There is a fair bit of home ownership by families, couples, and retirees. Students only dominate a handful of blocks.

The biggest misconception of Nob Hill is that it is affordable and that the majority of residents are young. Large swaths of the Northeast Heights are far cheaper and far younger than Nob Hill.

I agree on both of these counts. Also, some people seem to think Ridgecrest and the areas south of it are sketchy...when only nighttime on the corner of Carlisle and Gibson fit that description.

People think downtown ABQ is a war zone and super-trashy. It's not, and should be treasured by our city's residents. It's a great, historic downtown that's only going to get better as the years go by. The real estate down there is incredible - there are some pretty spectacular homes in the area.

Biggest misconception would likely be that my neighborhood is unsafe - I live adjacent to CNM. However, while the neighborhood is not at all wealthy, it's pretty darn quiet as far as crime goes.

That seems to be an issue for much of SE - people seem to think its all sketchy.

From what I have read on City Data, South anything in Albuquerque is dangerous. I also am getting an impression that NE Heights are not too good either in that there have been a # of crime incidents on the people living in that area. My overall impression leaves me with the thought that the only (crime problem free) area in Albuq is RR.
