There was an old thread about this, but that was along time ago. Lately, I've found a few cheap whites that I have really enjoyed. I always drink cheap whites chilled, and I think that makes them better....Barefoot Pino Grigio $5.99, and Tisdale Chardoney, $3.99.

I recently brought a box of '09 Wurtz Riesling (3 lt jeroboam or 4 bottle equivalent) to a party. It's wine in an airtight bag inside a box, with a resealable spigot. So in your fridge it could easily last up to 2 months without going stale or flat. The wine itself was somewhat tart and a bit lean with apple, lemon-peel aromatics. Not overly complex or minerally; but it's thirst-quenching in the best way possible. Plus the box costs just $24, which makes that $6/bottle. Great for a crowd, great for cooking. It's the perfect summer quaffer. Cheers!

I think wine in a box is underrated. It is sometimes good and it does keep well. I'm the only wine drinker in my house, so I throw a lot away.

If you put dispense boxed wine in a decanter it changes the flavor and looks elegant.

Implying you drink good whites not "chilled" - ?

Anyway, I would offer:

Jacobs Creek Shiraz (~ $6)
Frontera Merlot (~ $5)
Charles Shaw aka "$2 buck chuck" Chard ($4)
Yellow Tail Shiraz (~ $6-7)

I don't know the brand names, but there are some very yummy wines at Aldi. I've had $5 cabs and merlots from Aldi that are as good as $12 bottles from other stores.
