I'm a regular happy hour imbiber (2-3 drinks per day) and for years have been stuck on Gin Martinis. I like the dry London-style Gins and hate the more floral new wave Gins. Vodka to me tastes like pure alcohol and does nothing for me. Scotch is out and I do like Bourbon when it's really cold out, but that isn't often in Florida. Tequila is a possibility and might enjoy it as a Martini substitute and even though Vodka is blah to me have seen Sake Martinis which sound interesting too. Any old school classic drinks a possibility? I do like bitter liqueurs like Campari as a mixer.

Have you tried rye whiskey before? It's not sweet like bourbon. It's much more peppery and oaky, and it has more of a burn on the finish. Rye makes great Old Fashioneds and Manhattans.

Another nod to the Manhattan. They really hit the spot. You can use Bourbon instead of Rye. In fact I usually ask for a Maker's Mark Manhattan.

Like Martinis they will make you 'see double and feel single'.

Love a good Manhattan but it's never quite cold enough in FL to enjoy them like I did living in the Northeast.

If you like him, why not stick with it? Gin and tonic. Tom Collins. Gin and cranberry. Gin and grapefruit juice. Gin Rickey. Heck, I'd say almost anything that has vodka could be switched to gin. (Except vodka sauce for pasta.)

How about a mint julep, frosty cold and minty.

Served over crushed ice they're kind of like an adult snow cone

Mint simple syrup can be bought online or check your local liquor store.

Or make it yourself:
1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, bring to boil, reduce until syrup thickens, remove from heat, add fresh mint, cover and allow to infuse.

Cheers

Mojitos and I second a Mint Julep.

There are also some good and fresh sounding drinks you can make with fresh basil.

If you don't like mint or a sweet drink you could always use an unsweetened flavored water like Hint.

Do you like rum? Goslings Black with pineapple Hint is yum yum.
