Researchers claim food also speeds up the metabolism helping the body get rid of the booze more quickly.
Elin Roberts, of Newcastle University's Centre for Life said: "Food doesn't soak up the alcohol but it does increase your metabolism helping you deal with the after-effects of over indulgence.
Interesting. Back when I was a silly young thing and divulged in too much alcohol at times, the next morning I'd crave ... desperately! ... bacon. Bacon and eggs, with an extra side of bacon. And lots of coffee. And some more bacon. I always thought it had something to do with the salt. Anyway, I'm no longer craving bacon in the mornings because a couple of glasses of nice wine is plenty.
Back in my young days of drinking too much, my morning thing was Domino's pizza (delivered, of course!) and a huge Pepsi! Good thing I have changed my ways, don't know how long I could have gotten away with that! It is amazing how you can fill yourself with junk when you are young and still be 96lbs.!!!
If I had a hangover, the smell of bacon would not be helpful!!! Luckily, I've only had one or two hangovers in my entire life. Still... bacon?? Yuck.
Oh yes, the smell of it frying would be retch-inducing. I'd not want to smell it, or any food, while it was being prepared, but I sure would crave bacon, as if it was my last meal, when I was hungover.
bacon was the ONE thing I remember that made my stomach turn when waking up from a night of heavy drinking.
