This is for my son who is now 24 and should be acne free by now. He is a healthy eater, broke out when he was 16 and he has severe acne (not just face but arms, back, etc).

He has been to a couple of dermatologists but no improvement.

And he's using it every night?

Hmm, that's a tough one.

Just asking... he's washing regularly too? What kind of cleanser is he using for his face and body?

There are all kinds of treatments now days for acne, he needs to try each for at least a month to see if there is an improvement, and if not, go back to the dermatologist.

Proactive works great. Inexpensive, very effective. Been around a long time. I feel badly when I see bad skin b/c chances are Proactive would do the trick. He should order that ASAP. I did use it even in my 50s, especially the cleanser in the summer.

Usually, when a preparation is used that strips the body of oil, the body over compensates by making more and more oil and the problem snowballs.

You might google "washing your face with oil". I do not have acne, but if I did, I would try this first.

I had a male friend years ago with the acne you describe. He did find a cure in antibiotics and antibiotic face washes and creams. He even had pimples down his arms and some boils. It was horrible. He was a single man so I have no clue how good his diet was.

My daughter developed bad acne in her late teens, she tried everything including the proactive treatment for a year with no change,in fact i thought it got worse. Finally she read a book "Wheat Belly" which convinced her to change her diet by cutting out among other things all dairy products, after a few months the acne disappeared , If all else fails it might be worth a try.
