The guy I know with PTSD... he wouldn't be able to relax while someone was massaging him unless he had a few shots of vodka first.

Yea, I went that route early on and it didn't end well or me.

Didn't have diagnosable PTSD from any specific trauma like military or crime victims have, but the usual lifetime shocks, hurts, and injuries nevertheless left their imprint in my body. These experiences made me hold my body in an unbalanced and twisty way. Rolfing really helped. Had the full series more than 12 years ago and its effects are still with me. I don't do "guarding" of my left side like I used to. Also, when working on the parts of my body that had been physically injured, I was able to feel with a precise recall how the injury felt when it happened, and some memories around it.

It's quite painful to get Rolfed; the treatment is way deeper than any mere massage. You need to tough it out. It is forbidden to take any pain relievers before or after, which includes alcohol of course, so the body "remembers" the pain and the new positioning. It is for many a once in a lifetime treatment, but some people choose to do a repeat, which I am considering.

Thanks nightlysparrow! I started EMDR 3 weeks ago and Rolfing last week. From what I have read this is a good combination. I go for my fourth EMDR session tomorrow and will get rolfed again next week. I do feel like I am making progress and its only just the beginning.

You have the Will to Heal. Very important.

You might also explore a book (or CD if you prefer listening), The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. He talks about everyone having an interior "Pain-Body" that needs attention. Although not specific to PTSD, it relates well.

Still improving with the EMDR and Rolfing combo. Think I am around week 8.
