Despite the title, this is a health related thread.

I do dance about twice per week. However, she said in confidence that she took it up because she had a diagnosed mental illness, and it helped her recover. I think I may be depressed, well I was, but have largely got over it now. Would it be acceptable to ask her, since it's obviously personal?

Absolutely acceptable. We need to be more open and honest about mental illness or the stigma will continue to kill us. Literally.
