Note turpentine oil:

My mother had me swallow a dollop when I had a cold/sore throat....that was long before grape seed ex and pine bark extract aka Pycnogenol. Yes, I had colds/sore throats many yrs ago.

I have an Essential Oil that is Pine Needle and I rub it in my arthritic knee.

From the vick's website:

Q: What ingredients are in Vicks VapoRub?A: The active ingredients in Vicks VapoRub are camphor (a cough suppressant and topical analgesic), eucalyptus oil (a cough suppressant) and methol (a cough suppressant and topical analgesic). The inactive ingredients in Vicks VapoRub include cedarleaf oil, nutmeg oil, petrolatum, thymol and turpentine oil.

Turpentine oil (from pine) is listed as inactive.

It is still oils in vaseline.

I don't understand this last sentence. These 2 have very different ingredients. Vaseline does not help with pain relief as in being an analgesic. I don't use Vaseline but when I did years back I used it to clean eyeliner off eyes.

My mom always rubbed Vicks on our throats, then pinned a flannel cloth around our necks, when we had colds.

I still use it for upper respiratory and cough. If nothing else, it is very soothing.

Just got an advertisement on Vicks and thought I'd remind folks again. I still use it just about every night on my feet, wear socks, and often rub on my knee. Good stuff and I won't be without it. Some with migraines rub it in their temples and do get relief.

I've used a little Vick's on my feet, works great. I wouldn't use it for migraines though, it triggered them twice with me.
