I tried that for FM and it did nothing. Not to mention it is pretty expensive.

BTW Guiafessin is an OTC medicine that used to be Rx.

Normal physiology: you step on a tack and a pain message shoots up the nerve to the spinal cord-- you reflexively pull your foot back -- meanwhile, the pain message continues up to your brain where you become aware of the pain and then start jumping around, screaming (the "suffering" phase of the pain reflex) for a few seconds.

Then your brain sends a message back down to the pain receptor in your foot to tell it to turn off, you got the message (kinda like shutting off that annoying smoke detector when it goes off in the kitchen or like when you walk into a room with a foul smell which you immediately notice, but soon forget about-- called "extinction").

People with Fibromyalgia have a faulty extinction phase of the pain reflex. It's so faulty in some that they actually get positive feedback, like holding a mike too close to the speaker-- the noise (or pain) gets louder and louder.

Pain, depression and sleep all have something to do with the mediator serotonin, and people with Fibromyalgia all have trouble with pain, sleep and depression to some degree or another. Any measure, from pain meds to antidepressants to exercise to cognitive therapy, etc etc can alter serotonin levels and help patients deal with the problems, but there is not yet any direct treatment that works for all. Maybe someday.

One can only hope...I'm so tired of being in constant pain! I've been this way for over 30 years, and it does get old.
