My wife and I are visiting Santo Domingo for about four days in late May/early June. I have plenty of information about how to get around the city and what to see/where to go.

One thing there doesn't appear to be a lot of information on is how to see the countryside from Santo Domingo. My wife and I hate resorts, so we're staying in Zona Colonial, and it seems that a lot of adventurous activities in the countryside leave from other places (e.g. Puerto Plata).

Question: Can anyone recommend things to do/see in the countryside of the DR that I can access from Santo Domingo? We love hiking, swimming, wildlife, etc.

Thanks in advance!
