An interesting story. If they're right and i'm willing to assume they are as who else would know better than them, then one has to wonder what the Barbadian Police are going to do about it and their 'evidence'.

BBC News - Barbados rapes: Victims say innocent man charged
Quote:
Two British women, raped in Barbados, say the man accused of attacking them is innocent.
Researcher Dr Rachel Turner, from Hertfordshire, and Diane Davies, of Anglesey, north Wales, were attacked within days of each other in October 2010.
Barbadian Derick Crawford, 47, has been charged with the attacks, but the pair are certain he was not the rapist.

Im not surprised. There are a few items on the issue in Youtube, newsclips, and its really disturbing - police who are indifferent, racist to the Brits and not even safeguarding crucial evidence. Additionally the gov. tried to keep the cases quiet as to not harm the tourist industry

The ladies have done some media over here in the last week to highlight the issue and like you said, the Barbadian authorities just seem to be trying to wish it all away. They're not coming out of it well, as indeed they shouldn't.

Both the UK and the US make note of the issue specifically with the State Department mentioning the case.

US: Barbados

A video interview with one of the women that has helped get the falsely charged man released.

BBC News - Barbados rape victims help to free 'wrong man'
Quote:
The case against a man accused of raping two British woman in Barbados has been dismissed by a court after both victims insisted police had got the wrong man.
Rachel Turner, from Hertfordshire, and Diane Davies, from North Wales were attacked within days of each other in 2010.
They waived their anonymity and told a court the accused, Derick Crawford from Barbados, was not their attacker.
Speaking from the Caribbean island Rachel said: "He's been held in prison for 18 months for a crime he didn't commit."
This whole case (and some others that can be easily found relating to Barbados) does make you wonder about the state of law enforcement on the island. That's not strictly true, I should say it tells you the state of law enforcement on the island.

It definitely mirrors how "justice" often works on the island...very backwards, and not always evidence-based. If you're arrested and held, it can take years for your case to be called. Unless you have a good lawyer, you can be jailed for the entire time you wait for trial, innocent or otherwise.
