I know firsthand that Brazil is not an inexpensive place to visit (much less live) in general, and during the WC, prices will skyrocket. Some hotels in cities hosting games (e.g., Rio, Fortaleza) have announced price increases of up to 500% during the games. Minimum-stay requirements may also be in effect in many cases. Perhaps the prices will come down if people don't pay. But one should be prepared for an expensive holiday, including domestic air fares between cities that can be a long ways apart. Best to check air (international and domestic) and hotel prices, and then decide.
Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if I had to pay $10,000+ for a 2 week stay there. Flights alone from Australia would be expensive, $3000 probably.
no and I would never go to rio as an American showin my American flag due to crime and overpriced stuff. ive seen it before to take advantage of them. if you are American go but if you latino, go root for a latin American nation and youd be fine. rio isn't the nicest, cleanest nation muchless safest city even if brasil tries to clean it up.
even then I like it.take it from a south American born in the US who has visited rio.

Well, it won't be cheap... When you have lots of people going to a country at the same time for an event, prices go up... It's the law of supply and demand...
But there will be other options besides the hotels, for example renting houses and apartments. Many people in Brazil are putting houses and apartments for rental for periods of 3-4 days during the World Cup.
In some coastal cities, cruise ship companies are also planning to dock cruise ships during the World Cup, and make it work as hotels...
The domestic air fares will really be a problem... Because Brazil is a continent-sized country, and the host cities can be very far away from each other... In the most extreme case, Manaus is 1950 miles (3139 kilometers) away from Porto Alegre...
