Simple answer is because their land area also occupies more than 90% of the Americas. If we do not include Greenland in the computation, those 9 countries constitute about 92% of the land area, so it's not a surprise that the total population of the 9 countries is also more than 90%. With land and population, economic and political influence follow.

The Western Hemisphere consists of countries that are remnants of empires. Only Spain's former colonies broke apart into small entities after they seperated from Spain. The English and Portugese colonies tended to stick together.

DR for being a relatively small country gets a lot of discussion here too though...

Yes, the Dominican Republic is the 6 most visited American country after the 5 G-20 countries.

I don't think the OP meant what American countries get the most attention in this forum, but why 9 American countries have the most influence and catches the attention of the world while most of the rest are treated as if they don't exist or are not worth anyone's time.

It is also one of the Newest Nations. Not actually become a free independent Nation until after the death of Trujillo in 1961. Economically it is one of the fastest growing Nations in the Americas. But with a total population only the size of New York city and a total annual GDP of $98.7 Billion it is far below the $1,406.00 Billion GDP of New York City

This is the problem with many people commenting on DR, too many people simply repeating misinformation.

Trujillo died in 1961. When Trujillo rose to power, the country was already 86 years old.

Dominican Republic became independent in 1844. It was actually among the first countries in the Caribbean to gain independence.

Also if going by that logic, the Balaguer era after Trujillo was a continuation (albeit not as drastic) of many of Trujillo's policies.
