how can El Salvador, one of the smallest hispanic countries, have the most dangerous gang in the US, MS 13? Is it only because of the Civil War? Was the country violent before that?
What difference does it make what country they originated in? The foot soldiers in the US are mostly not from El Salvador and I have to assume most of the leadership who helped it grow to its current status aren't from there either.

Thats not true at all. Even though it originated in Los Angeles, the vast majority of soldiers & shot callers are Salvadoreans. MS is still a very Salvadorean thing.
