True but it is an interesting idea....had the JLP in Jamaica not nixed the idea of the Federation...Guyana's vast land would be a welcome bit of territory for CARICOM...all the islands could take advantage of Guyana's land and the oil it contains and Guyana would have enough population to stave off the inevitable attempt by Venezuela to take all its territory...Guyana would actually have a large labour force capable of harvesting the land...make no mistake, Guyana in its current form will not last with Venezuela making claims to most of the land and an ever shrinking tiny population being stuck on the coast...it would have made more sense with Caricom...not so sure about Haiti...but tension is coming Guyana's way one way or the other

Its safe to assume that most black Guyanese are racist towards indo-Guyanese and most indo-Guyanese are racist towards black Guyanese. Whenever a typical Guyanese from either group goes to another country and they see locals that racially resembles their Guyanese opposition, even if in the new country there are no major racial tensions between the two native groups, I would think it would be hard for a Guyanese to let go of the vision of the world that he/she has had since the times he/she lived in Guyana.
This may be true but in this case the claim is being made that indo-Guyanese are influencing indo-Trinis...the two nations have a very similar racial makeup but Trinidad has more harmonious racial relations on the surface...I would really have to hear from a knowlegdeable Trini on this as what is being described could very well be native Trini racial animus being attributed to indo-Guyanese outsiders

As is clearly visible in this map of global population density, Guyana is in blue, which means has one of the lowest population densities in the world. They definitely have more than enough space to accomodate large numbers of foreigners. All they have to keep an eye on is that the foreigners are not a new racial group, but rather members of racial groups that already exist in Guyana. As of right now the blacks need to bolster their share of the population if they want a realistic opportunity to gain even more political power and rule Guyana.

Population density - Canada

Guyana has a population density that simply doesn't exist in any of the Caribbean islands.

Here is another map where the emptiness of Guyana becomes even more apparent.

Map Index for Ecological History

If there is a country that actually needs more people it's Guyana.

Good point about Venezuela's ambition. Guyana needs to populate its frontier with farmers that will protect their land from any Venezuelan encroachment attempts and, in the process, they simultaneously protect Guyana's right to its own land.

Here are two maps that are currently officially in use in Venezuela. They basically want most of Guyana.

Suriname wants a good portion of the other half but presumably Guyana should be able to hold them off....history is pretty clear about matters like these...bigger more powerful countries take land from weaker, sparsely populated countries all the time...its a complicated issue...I know they say a lot of Brazilians are in Guyana...I don't know if Venezuela will do what Guatemala has done to Belize...flood the smaller country with its citizens...in a couple of generations Belize will be Guatemala-lite

I also don't think the rest of the island is viable for Haitian expansion because of historical frictions that exist between the two nationalities for well more than a century. In Guyana politics is based on race more than culture, so I fail to see how an influx of black Haitians would cause friction over there. If anything it will bolster the black political parties power, add to that ample empty land where the influx of black foreigners can be settled and can farm, etc and there's not much room for tensions to arise except the already existing tension between indo-Guyanese and the blacks as a whole.

You bring to light another group which normally isn't talked about from the outside looking into Guyanese society and that is the amerindians. In a country as Guyana, where racial appearances and political affiliations go hand in hand more so than cultural similarities, and where the amerindians are grossly outnumbered; its probably safe to assume that the amerindians have a near 0% chance of gaining any viable political influence.

Do they side with one of the two main groups? If so, which one?
Guyana is the land of 6 peoples. The mixed population is significant and growing. The racial issues tend to be most prominent in politics. People go about daily life without anywhere near the tensions present within politics.

Not sure how there wouldnt be friction. Haitians are culturally different than Afro-Guyanese and speak a different language. But even more, Guyana itself is not strong enough economically to handle mass immigration. If the Dominican Republic cannot handle it, the Guyana certainly cannot.

Perhaps, French Guiana would make a little more sense. However, Haiti is rebuilding and getting better by the day. I hope that sooner rather than later, they won't have to leave their beautiful nation as much.

Anyway, the multiracial party won in Guyana...all of the racial reports and discussion and the people chose the mixed party.

So its official now? Seems to be some funny business going on...reports of files being moved from Government buildings...I am glad though...don't know much about the internal workings of Guyana but doesn't seem like much has been going on there for the last 20 years the other guys have been in power
