That's the fist time I've ever heard that descriptor applied to them. The older parts - they are picturesque. The high rises could be any big city on earth. Generic and lame, even if practical.
I meant upon approach by plane with the high-rises set against the water....that is picturesque. I can't speak for the individual architecture of the newer buildings....have only viewed from afar.
Yep, I've flow through Pty (Tocumen) via Copa on several trips to the region. Next time, I will just get off the plane in Panama City!
LOL...I just had a flight from St. Martin to Chicago via COPA with a layover in Panama City. I got off and did a quick tour of Casco Viejo on my 4.5 hour layover. Risky, but so happy to have seen it. Was beautiful; made me want to go back and see more, along with the canal and Panama Viejo. Would love to have been able to absorb myself a little more in the local culture during my short stop there.

Risky because of the limited time between flights? I had about a 4 hour layover in early 2015 and airport employees advised against it. Wish I had just gone for it. Good you went ahead and did it.
If you people want to come to Pty, do it in the last part of December, January and first part of February that is when I am on vacation and can help you out getting to know the city. Btw, I used to be a tour guide, so I know where to take you.
