So my wife is from Medellin. We are serioulsy considering living in Medellin from January 1st to May 1st and in Chicago for the rest of the year. Our careers allow us to work remotely (in theory anyways) and we will still be based out of Chicago.
I am not lazy and I have done some research, but I read and hear conflicting salary information. Most of the Colombians I ask provide different info, plus it is a little rude to ask friends and family etc..so I don't. So please forgive my impoliteness, but I am very interested in knowing what a typical upper middle class worker in Medellin earns annually. For example what do successful doctors, lawyers, and businessmen typically earn? Again for the record, we plan to keep our jobs based in Chicago, but we want to know what sort of lifesyle we can expect.
I do not have children yet, but wow much is needed for a family of four to enjoy an upper middle class lifestyle? For example private school for kids, 2 cars (oddly expensive in Medellin), 4 bedroom house/apt in nice area, maid or cook, and possibly a finca later on...
If you could provide some personal insight or a link with reliable salary, cost of living, etc.. information that would be great as well of course. For some reason most of the info I come across on the web at this point seems highly unreliable.
