Which of these two megacities has the larger contiguous expanse of neighborhoods that scaled for the pedestrian? (think along the lines of London,Paris, Manhattan and many parts of Brooklyn in NYC as opposed to Jakarta or Manila)
I'm not too familiar with Sao Paulo, but Mexico City has quite a few- Colonial Condesa, Colonial Roma, Coyoacan, Polanco, Centro Historico, amongst others that I am not familiar with.
Air B&B has a good description of the different types of walkable neighborhoods.
Anyone else been to both Mexico City and Sao Paulo to comment on which is the more walkable of the two?
I've been to Mexico city but never to Sao Paulo sorry.
I found Mexico city quite walkable in many areas, however judging by google street view Sao Paulo looks just as walkable. No way would these cities compare to London or Paris, more towards Jakarta and Manila but perhaps a tad better. Maybe like Los Angeles walkable or slightly better in certain areas.
I've never been to Mexico, but São Paulo is considered a place where mid and upper classes almost dont walk thru the city. In Rio you see a lot more high middle classes on the streets and in public transportation than in São Paulo.
