Haiti Continues Strong Tourism Growth#

By the Caribbean Journal staff
Haiti’s strong tourism growth continued in 2014, according to new data from the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
The country, which has been developing a long-dormant sector in recent years, received a total of 465,174 stayover visitors last year, according to the CTO.
That represented a 10.8 percent improvement over the previous year.
The country’s growth was particularly strong in last year’s tourist season, when it showed a 24.7 percent improvement over the same period in 2013.
The country also saw a 5.2 percent improvement during the summer season.
That came after Haiti saw a 17.9 percent improvement in tourism in 2013.
Haiti’s tourist sector is set for another boost this year, when the new Haiti Marriott is slated to open in Port-au-Prince.

Now this is what I call genuine good news.

What places within Haiti are on their way to become tourist destinations or at least the government has plans to develop as tourist destinations?

I don't know the country well, but me and my soon to be girlfriend are planning a trip in December. I will be analyzing the country very closely.

I would also like to add that my best friends father gave me and his son a piece of land. I told my friend that I want this piece of land to be something that is some sort of investment. Hopefully I can see this land for myself when I visit.

There is a lot of development going on in the country.. despite the latest debacle at the border, the country in regards to tourism has been marching on swimmingly.

Below is a video which showcases many points of interest throughout the country.

The area which is around National Palace is being redeveloped, but one area that has been ready for tourist for a while is the Musée National d'Haiti in Port au Prince is fantastic

Peitonville, the wealthy neighborhood of Port Au Prince has been adding a number of hotels restaurants and boutiques since 2010 and is developing beautifully.

The Southern Coast and the Northern Coast are currently being redeveloped. In the South there is Ile a Vache which is still being developed

In the North they have rehabilitated the Citadelle and Sans Souci Palace which is in Milot Haiti a little outside of Cap Haitien.

Cap Haitien is another city that is poised for development.

And these are just a few places. Others include Jacmel, Cote Des Arcadins, Fermathe and more.. The problem however, is that the country lacks the usual comforts you would find on other Caribbean Islands that cater to your traditional flip flops and Hawaiian Shirt tourist. Example: decent transportation from the airport to tourist destinations or hotels, tourist shops, and restaurants etc. So in the coming years developing that tourist infrastructure is going to be what makes or breaks the country's tourism industry. However, if you have a flair for adventure and don't mind a little bit more of a rustic experience, definitely rent a car, book a hotel and explore the country. It is a beautiful place both culturally and environmentally.
