Mexico City seems so interesting to visit, but I think its name holds it back. People see "Mexico" in the title and automatically assume it's some crappy desert town in Northern Mexico. Maybe they should call it Tenochtitlan again
I always dislike city names that use the name of the country.
I don't know if that's true or not but MX City is way underrated. So much going on down there and just the sheer size of it is pathetic why there isn't more tourists visiting. Any random small beach town in Mexico gets more attention than arguably the biggest city on this hemisphere.
Yes, it is hugely underrated. Unfortunately many people have an old idea of what the city is like. Lots of art, culture, great food. I really like the book stores, outdoor markets and cafes there.

I think that is a great idea to change the name back to Tenochtitlan, a way more interesting and meaningful name. Maybe it's good that it isn't a super popular destination, keeps the annoying people away. Let them go to their resorts. Lol

In this I have to agree with you an Warsawa. Back in the 80's and 90's the whole country image was affected by Mexico City and now the roles have been reverted.
I wonder what would be easier; to name rename the city or the country. If is the city, we can all agree Tenochtitlam can fill the void, but how about the country; Nueva España perhaps?
And much more than that, for a country that began requiring visa from its largest latin american market only for a cow United States had someday, and even accepting USA's visa to enter in its own country without the mexican visa...
1. Tacos, Speedy gonzales, indigenous people going to the US in hordes, pancho villa is not a proper 21st century image
2. Mexico city's name doesn't favor it.... Mexico city = Mexico to most people.... It's sad a modern 21st century megalopolis gets ignored because of its name. Sadly cancun is more recognized!

I think the country name is fine tbh, just the city that needs the name change
