Good point. Socialism grew very rapidly when the conditions were more unequal, they are still unequal to a large extent in South America. As things get more equal, more people move up into the middle class; maybe they forget how much socialism helped them when they were struggling daily living and want to protect their money and think that they made it now and want to be like the big boys. The thing is, the middle class will be sacrificed in a minute by the big boys if they can make money at it.
I am trying to figure this out as I go along, since I am not a theorist on the subject, but it interests me.
I am also trying to compare socialism in Latin America and socialism in Europe.
Socialism came easier in Europe , especially in Northern Europe because more people there have an inherent sense of fairness, that is no one should be very rich or poor.
I think that in Latin America people have to struggle more. Look at Colombia, the struggle was an armed struggle for a long time because labor organizer get killed in Colombia even today. It is a harder fight in Latin America. But that's life.
