I am new in this forum and would like to communicate with someone in El Salvador. My wife and I wold like to go on a vacation to El Salvador but I have never been there and although my wife was born there she has not made a trip there since she was a child. Most important for me and my wife is SAFETY. We heard so much bad news from El Salvador a few years back but we're hoping that's no longer the case. We have friends in Europe who have taken vacations in El Salvador and they told us it's pretty safe now...we'll of course, as long one stays away from known troubled areas. We live in the U.S. I know some Spanish and can understand it better than I can speak; but my wife is totally fluent. Thank you for your kind advice.
The Tourist are always going to say its ok, but they are probably in a tourist zone, not venturing through Salvadorian neighborhoods, and visiting family.
We visited in 2007 , and I did have a good impression of the roadways, landscape, beach. We stayed in Soyapango mostly, and visited the beaches from there. My mother in law lives in a typical casita /apartment and runs a small stand by the Famous church in town.
I did not see any mean looking guys walking around with tatoos, but was approached by some Drunk Men. I gave them some beer money to go away. I could see myself in a very bad situation if something did go wrong, but fortunately it went ok.
If she has close family in El Salvador , that can tell her it is safe to visit, you should go. If you do go, dont be flashy or show off wealth. Pulling out cash or making big purchases caan make you stick out.
I also did not hang around like a local, but did shop, with a family male, as an escort.
