Why is there a hierachy in Latin America? It makes me sad when I hear and see this myself from many latinos/latinas. They can't blame it on the conquistadors anymore because that was a long time ago, it's this day and age that I can see bigotry, segregation etc.

For example I hear people say oh my country has these kind of people not that kind of people because we are better than them blah blah blah.
I swear I see this happen so often around the city I live in. In my opinion I don't care how the person looks like or what culture they have, I always like learning new things and making new friends. I would never put myself above anyone else the same way I wouldn't want anyone thinking they are better than me.

You mean how many Americans talk of less developed countries with disdain or at least with a clear sense of looking down on them?

Right here in City-Data, which is visited mainly by people living in the USA, there's plenty of evidence of people referring to less developed countries as '3rd World.' That implies that there are 'First World' countries, of which the US is one of them. These are the superior countries of the world, the best, number one, the ones at the top of the global hierarchy.

Quite a few Americans are so disgusted with those inferior lower hierarchy '3rd World' countries that:

The only countries worthy of visiting are Canada, Australia, New Zealand; Japan, and much of Europe. Everywhere else is too disgusting and a waste of money, according to many Americans.

Is that what bothers you, OP?

No that's not what I meant but that's also horrible when some Americans look down on other people. I guess I just get sad hearing some latinos talk down about their own countries and other Latin American countries. I've heard it a few times from people saying something like we don't have any indigenous people in our country we are only white but the people saying that to me are mestizo, indigenous or mulattos themselves so it's sad to hear those things. Of course not everyone is like this but I've encountered this a lot lately so this has been on my mind. One person told me about this hierchy system in Latin America where they think that black is on the bottom of the list then indigenous, followed by mulatto, mestizo and then creole. I find that horrible. If that is true what is the reason for that? I don't understand. This isn't the 1500's but 2017 and for people to still think like that is just awful.

Another awful thing I hear is how some people turn their backs to the indigenous populations that are already dying out and not caring. When you compare that to the native Americans they try everything in their power to preserve their languages, culture etc to pass it down to the next generations but I don't hear about the indigenous people from Latin America trying to preserve anything they want to forget it seems.

Sorry the Heirachy situation happens in every society.
How people are ranked can be different ... but it has always been around.
It is not unique to the Latin American/ Latin Americans.
This type of thinking is pretty tricky to remove.
