I don't think many saw the Soviet Union splitting up peacefully the way it did. I, for one, would love to see the USA divide up into a dozen or so independent nations based on culture, beliefs, and vision for their own future. How much in common does a person in CA really have with a person in TN? MA or OK? TX or NY? Most would agree the federal government holds way to much power.

This is utter nonsense.

You ask us to simply believe because you say so. You offer no numbers, no quantitative analysis at all.

You would just have smaller federal governments with the same power.

You should have been president instead of Lincoln.
If Lincoln had thought more along your lines a great many more people would have seen a more natural life span.

At this point this isn't a bad idea. Rather than have one huge dysfunctional country better to have smaller, more functional countries and people could live in the societies mostly closing aligned to them.

The problem my friend is the lack of national identity in the country. This has a lot to do with a government and a society that doesn't stop dividing people into racial categories.

For god sake, I live in Cuba and I don't even remember people being segregated so much into racial categories. People in Cuba are Cubans. In America people are not Americans, they are white, black, Hispanic, Asians. When was the last time you heard somebody said he was American in a social way.

The whole race thing is a freaking cancer at this point and the reason it will force the country to divide itself.

How did you vote for Trump if you live in Cuba?

Trump can be ousted in 4 years but the left or the liberals are not doing themselves any favours by bemoaning all the time. You should respect democracy and carry on, the reason Trump won is because of the neglect and liberal bubble thinking everything was hunky dory. This is an opportunity to regroup and look at new solutions to the benefit of a wider populace than just the urban liberal sphere.
I think with the way things are going, the next president of the US will also be a republican. I am not a trump fan but i consider myself a republican. I think the left isn't "doable" anymore. Take Brazil for example, PT( Left wing) ruined the country with its socialistic policies and mantra that they were going to save the poor giving them pocket change instead of investing in education and manufacturing/technologic growth.

I'm neither a Republican nor a Trump supporter, but the left is never doable because they always want just a little bit more. A very basic social safety net to help those who can't help themselves is not enough. They're always looking at ways to chip away at other people's freedoms to improve their own lot in life using the sledge hammer of big government.

The problem is there are those among the "right" who believe that there should be no social safety net altogether. So let's end public education, end social security, end medicare, etc. I personally am against those things.

And please, not everyone among the so called "left" feels the same way or has the same stance.

The media has dehumanized and divided the nation into labels, and gotten us to a point where discourse is simply impossible.
