I heard that I would need to fly to Buenos Aires, then either take a coach or flight to Patagonia from there? Is it that simple, and also which would be the best option? A coach could take a while, whereas a flight would be fast. How much would I save going by coach?

The Patagonia is best seen and accessed from the Chilean side.

I would make a trip out of it following the budget airline routes with two day stop-overs in different LatAm capitals, especially as you're travelling all that way.

Coach?? Are you nuts?

Of course it depends how deep you want to go into the Patagonia as the Patagonia is massive. If your content with just going to Bariloche then a flight from Buenos Aires is fine.

I am a fan of paleontology, so would like to visit the Dinosaur museum and the area of Patagonia where the dinosaurs were found. I heard that was far south of Argentina though, close to the Andes mountain range?

As for the coach travel, is that a bad idea then?

Exactly right. Depends on your destination in Patagonia. I went from Buenos Aires to Bariloche to Calafate in Argentina.
