At 47:38 the discussion turns to what two people that for many years lived in the United States and then went back to Haiti to live and start businesses. This is something that will be noted in much of the Caribbean, so it isn't something unique to Haiti but it tends to be something of a secret since it isn't something "aired out" outside of the region for most of the Caribbean.

There areother tale tells signs thst someonecnot acquainted with in this case Haiti will notice with time. For example, all Haitians from top to bottom in society speak and understand Haitian Creole, but only about 5% speak French and have it as a mother tongue. Generally, those that have French as a mother tongue are either native white Haitians (they make up at most about 1% of the population) and native Haitian mulattoes who are also have single digits percentages, basically people that descend from the French whether they are white or mulattoes (and some other origins such as Arabs, but most are descended in part from the French while most Haitians aren't). Generally, people that only understand Haitian Creole doesn't speaks or understand French minus a few words that arecvery similar or the same in both languages. The main newspaper in Haiti is Le Nouvelliste and, from my understanding, it only prints in French! Think about that, the main newspaper in a basically Haitian Creole speaking country.

Maybe things will change, because until the 1980's the only language thwt government instutions functioned was French. If someone needed to get say a drivers license, they could only get it in French, a language not spoken by most of the Haitian population. It isn't like that now, but Haiti is the second oldest country in the Western Hemisphere (only the USA is older.)
