That was interesting. I have heard of this community before but never heard anyone from there speak Spanish. Yes I could understand them but they had pretty heavy English accents, alot of the words were mispronounced. I detected an accent similar to some Caribbean accents with the last gentleman that spoke, Jesse Alfonso.

I understood the French too. Man, Louisiana is interesting place. We have had discussions about this on the Canadian forum before. Thanks for sharing that.

Your impression matches what I thought about the Spanish that several of the older Isleños spoke. You could tell they lacked some grammar knowledge in Spanish, because of course they were required to attend school with English as the classroom language. I liked listening to Mr. Alfonso in the last interview the most, he sounded a bit like some people I know from Venezuela who had Canary Island ancestors.
