Due to trade embargos...this has, as a derivative, created some of the best vintage auto mechanics. Wwhen I was there in Havana, those guys are very creative when they have to work on the cars. Especially converting those gasoline engine cars to diesel....
The one thing Venezuela and Cuba have in common is that they both went socialist in the extreme. Venezuela removed the law that prohibited the importation of used cars in 2019, but alas the middle class has been descimated after years of socialist policies. The ones that could buy them en masse largely are not there anymore.
Keep in mind that the only country with a trade embargo on Cuba is the USA in a world with hundreds of countries.

Homie, the reason they are driving 57 Chevys and not 2021 Corvettes is because of the embargo. The reason they have become excellent mechanics on those classic cars is a derivative of that...because they cannot easily source parts to keep them running from the likes of NPD, Ecklers, Speedway Motors, Summit, etc....if possible, they get parts that are smuggled in by people but thats very rare. They even swap the gasoline engines in them for diesel ones to keep them on the road. There are also Russian cars, whats called Lada cars. There are no Tata Minis, Range Rovers, Bentleys, RR's,etc. now due to economics. But even after the trade embargo you werent going to find any euro cars like Merc, BMW, Astons, Land Rovers, etc....
Also, there are old cars here in Brazil...old Defender Rovers (90's and 110's), a few old American muscle cars depending on where you are in the country, some old Renaults, etc.
Nobody stating that the reason Cubans are riding around in old muscle car era american cars is wrong. Thats not a hard concept to acknowledge.
I still hold that the embargo excuse is just that, an excuse.

Range Rover (I think in Germany, though the radio station in the background sounds in Spanish).
It was some years ago, now in Cuba there are cars like anywhere else
