Poverty by region. Includes the extreme poverty figures.
Extreme poverty by region.
Income inequality has been going down (the country is becoming more equal, as time goes on the economy is not just benefiting the rich) at the national and urban levels. However, it's worrysome that from 2021 to 2022, rural areas saw an increase in inequality. Hopefully this is temporary and the downward spiral picks up again. With things like a massive illegal immigration from Haiti, the last thing desirable is for poverty and inequality to increase.
Income inequality from 2021 to 2022 has been going down in all the regions. Over 80% of the population lives in towns and cities, this is why on a national and regional levels the occurence at the ruraal level doesn't have much of an impact. Before the 1970's the majority of the population was rural.
