I finally made it up here! The less said about my first two weeks, the better, but I am in Anchorage now and liking it pretty well so far. I am interested in joining a fitness center, and need some suggestions about which ones offer the best value. I would prefer month-to-month, as I have gotten burned with contracts in the past.

I would also like some suggestions as to where to go to meet some new people. The town I moved from had a very "closed" feel to it: everyone seemed to have known each other for years, and outsiders were just that. Here, it feels like everyone I meet is originally from someplace else! I am in hopes that means people are a little more accepting of newcomers. *crosses fingers*

Also, any suggestions for finding a pet-friendly apartment? I have a place to stay now, but it is not ideal as a permanent situation. I've been looking at craigslist, but other ideas would be most welcome.

Welcome to town, JazzyP!

Do you like to hike? There are some active hiking groups if you are interested in making contact. I'd be glad to give you the information. There are also a number of active MeetUp groups for different interests in Town.

Weiner is a pet-friendly rental company; however, perhaps it's a Weiner property you are trying to get out of LOL!

One meet up group is called the Sage Women. You can find it under meet up groups. There is a real diversity of gals in that group. They plan lots of various activities. In addition, I do a lot of hiking with the Alaska Outdoors Group. They have an ad in the paper every week and advertise on Yahoo Groups. If you want to send me a personal e-mail, I could give you more info.

I second the vote for Alaska Outdoors.... great folks! From that group & its predecessor the grapevine we have formed lots of hiking & backpacking friendships.

Welcome to the Alaska Outdoors
