We used to go to a very good drive up BBQ shack called AJ's Ribs a Go Go, that we used to joke with a large grain of truth calling it AJ's Ribs a Gone Gone due to it's popularity and the time late in the day that we tended to visit. We adored their beef ribs.

So...they've moved to deep south Anchorage and we live downtown and there is no way that my husband would be cheerful about driving 10-12 miles for takeout. Is there anyplace that any of you folks know about in the downtown/midtown area that might have good traditional barbeque ribs without firing up the grill in this temperature?

We are jonesing.

TIA.

If they are that good, they are worth the drive! Sorry no restaurant recommendations. Well, maybe you could try Sourdough Mining Company, they even deliver.

Hey, AJ's only a few minutes from midtown right south of 36th on Lake Otis. Worth the extra ride!

Really. That's some good news. We grilled up some tasty beef ribs for Christmas dinner but sometimes I just don't want the work and the clean-up mess. DH will be fine with heading out that way for a rib pick-up.

The last we saw, they were out in the Huffman area (having moved from Dimond near Fred Meyer) and with living downtown, well that's a bit of driving for take-out even food as fine as AJ's. Maybe they have two locations now? I'll check them out on Lake Otis. Thanks much!

Wayne's is long gone. They started out with a bang, but the owners kept messing with the format and it died a slow death. Then there was a kitchen fire and they closed for good. It's a billiard place now.

Wayne's had good dry rubbed and smoked meats but their sauces were too vinegary for my tastes. The sides were okay but nothing stood out. Still it was sad to see them go. A similar thing happened with a place called The Taste of Texas years ago. I could have lived on their tamales and chili but they died slowly too.

BBQ places with rare exception seem to not last in this town. Being from the Kansas City area, good barbeque is the one thing I really miss about the place.

We went looking for AJ's today both in the old and new location and called the listed number which is out of service. Looks like AJ's is gone.
