Glad you kidlet is enjoying it! One of my kid's first views in Anchorage was a drunk guy peeing on a sign in front of a very busy bank, so hoping yours is spared that kind of nonsense!

Welcome home, to quote the legendary Alaska chief Warptman.

What is a kidlet?

No random drunk people peeing in public. I think it's a tad but chilly to be exposing one's private parts to the element. But hey, what do I know?

Loving Alaska so far. I head up into the interion on Wednesday and begin the process of really getting settled.

Notrees, a kidlet is a 9 y/o boy that I have convinced myself that if I give him cutsey nicknames will not grow to be taller than me before he turns 10. So far, it's not working. about 6 more inches and I'm toast. And I'm not ever short. 5'5" is a respectable height.

You haven't lived until forced by lack of services, to have to answer nature's call at -65F somewhere along the road. OMG. Hope to never have to repeat that again.

Welcome and best of luck to you in your new home.

Keep the shoes! I live in my boots in the winter, but keep the cute shoes for warmer months. We did have company for Christmas and one of the women had the cutest high heeled booties on. Some folks brave to cold in order to look cute, personally I get cranky when my toes are cold.

Welcome to Alaska

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

AK-Cathy - I sincerely hope that I never have the "pleasure" of that experience. No offense, but there is only so much a girl can adapt to at one time.

Amblicia - I will keep the cute shoes, most of them are on a shipping container anyway and I won't see them until at least March.

SO . . . I head up to the interior in a few hours. Last leg of the journey and I settle into my new digs.

Decided that I couldn't wait for my car to get here and REALLY didn't like the idea of being up in the interior without a vehicle so I rented a car with studded tires to get me through the next week and a half or so.

Went grocery shopping yesterday and stocked up. SHould have enough provisions for about a month and a half to two months. Only things I should have to grab are milk and the occasional loaf of bread.

Wish me luck guys!!!!

Nikki

Nikki, when you head north to shop in Nenana, stop by the Clear Sky Ranch. Great food there. If/when you head up to Fairbanks for more shopping, there are many great places to dine.

Good luck on the drive north today. It's likely to be windy in the mountains with some drifting snow. Nothing too crazy; the Parks sees regular use and maintainence, but watch out for those drifts snaking onto the road, especially around bridges and close-by terrain obstructions. You don't want to hit even a little one at 60mph.
