Hi all, I live in rural AK and have been to Anchorage plenty, but haven't walked in town much.

I've got a full day to spend there in mid-March. I'll be leaving my hotel around 11am on Spenard Lake and need to be at the airport by 8pm.

I was thinking of walking around the lake over to earthquake park, then up the coastal trail and then to mid-town and back to the airport, stopping in some of my favorite shops and cafes along the way. Or I might just head straight over to mid-town and back. Not sure how nice the coastal trail will be in March anyway.

I'm just curious about the safety aspect of this-- how safe are all these areas mid-day on a weekday? Planning on sticking to the main roads, but do all the main roads have sidewalks?

And another random question- can I actually walk all the way to the airport? Doesn't seem like I remember there being a pedestrian walkway all the way in.. seems like a cab may be necessary for that part at least.

Thanks.

You're ambitious. There is a bike path on the north side of International Airport Road that goes most of the way to the airport. Here's a link to trail maps in Anchorage as well as distances.
