Hi all!

My husband is a surgeon in Phoenix and is being sent to a hospital in Anchorage for a rotation in January and February of this upcoming year. I work from home and am going to be able to join him for those two months, and I would love some suggestions for things to do in the area during this time. I've been to the area before (and traveled all around Alaska), but that was during the summer. Weekend activities as well as good restaurants/bars and local hangouts would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

There are several threads on good restaurants in Anchorage, if you run a search on this forum. There are other skiing areas in Anchorage as well as cross country skiing on the trails around Anchorage.

jessrscott, take a drive down along the Turnagain on the Seward highway to at least Girdwood. It is a magnificent drive in winter too.

Ski at Alyeska or Arctic Valley ski areas. Or rent snowshoes for up in Glen Alps. Or rent cross-country skis for the groomed trails right through town. Go down to Kincaid park to walk the trails (or ski the trails) & look for moose.

Eat at Moosestooth, Glacier Brewhouse, Snow Goose, Snow City(breakfast).

Enjoy!
