Israel Keyes, the confessed killer of Samantha Koenig killed himself on Sunday.

Perfect example of the psycopathic personality - he apparently really didn't see a reason why not to kill.

Doubtful that he will be missed.

Another serial killer from Washington State?

That's scary stuff. I'm glad that monster is no longer with us. I can barely step on a bug. I can't stand to see people suffer. How could someone "enjoy" killing another person. Chilling.

I imagine it's about the power of it, the feeling you get addicted to that you can affect someone's life so much. And it's an intensely powerful activity, killing someone. It's a type of high. The "Why not?" answer may seem so innocuous, like he's a kid starting a fight at the elementary school playground or something, but there's much more to it than that. It excited him. He enjoyed it. He wouldn't have done it if he didn't enjoy it.

I can see why people would kill other people if they enjoyed it. Heck, I enjoy redlining BMW M3s and polluting & speeding! I understand the "do it because I enjoy it" part of it.

I don't think anyone can really understand the "I enjoy killing" part of it. It seems to be about power to me. Scary stuff.

Exactly why we need to be more careful.

You have given a perfect "blue book" answer to the psychological question of "why" ths happen. All the available research makes it clear that serial killers act in order to secure power and control, because they feel either inadequate or wronged, or both, in their own lives.

The mass murderers, like the Lanza guy in Connecticut may act on the same triggers, but the serial killer is unique because he(and rarely, but sometimes she) has a sexual component to their acts of control and domination.

The serial killer thrives on control and dominance.
