We are looking to buy a home in the Sand Lake area. Can you hear airport/airplane noise from the houses just North of Kincaid and West of Sand Lake Rd? Please help, thank you.

Yes, but it's pretty much like that all over Anchorage unless you're way out south or up on the Hillside. I hike out at Kincaid Park almost everyday and I don't think it's that bad. I live over on the eastside of Anchorage by Debarr and Muldoon and I find the aircraft noise from Elmendorf AFB to be more distracting. They usually only fly a few times a day but the F-22's can be loud, very loud.

I've got relatives who live in the Westpark subdivision and they say it can get very noisy when the jets fly overhead during certain wind conditions. They said it seems like the jets are actually going to hit your house during some of the take offs and landings. FWIW....

Considering Anchorage is surrounded by an AirForce base and 2 airports, you get noise just about everywhere.

You get what you buy!

People move next to an airport, then complain about the noise. It that bothers you, then move to Girdwood or Eagle River or farther out!

Alaska flies, there is maybe more than a dozen airports just in Anchorage or more counting the private ones!

living next to an airport is 20 times better than living next to a snow dump in a high snow fall winter. The noise the trucks make when they dump snow is aweful. I would take a jet shaking my entire house every few hours then the high pitch clang the dump trucks make at the snow dumps.

Starlite - Reminds me of a racetrack down here. The track was built YEARS before any homes were nearby. Then they built a ton of homes, the homeowners complained of the noise and got the track shut down.

Its a lot harder to get an airport shut down, there are a lot of economic factors with an airport.

My folks live in muirwood, yes it gets noisy when certain flight paths are in use. Yes, jets go right overhead. I have a friend in west park who experiences similar. I live on the hillside and hear the occasional helicopter that always has me thinking search and rescue....
