The road is paved. Thousands of people do it every summer. I've seen them on the Cassiar Highway, The Alcan, and the Top of the World Highway. Seems like the most popular bike is some kinda BMW. I'm not don't know all the different kinds but it seems like that's what I see the most. Good luck and have fun!

People do it all the time. A friend of mine drove up in the late 70s by herself from Berkley, CA to McCarthy, AK. Don't think it was paved then. I think you can probably manage it.

Talk to Mark at Thumperstuff.com. (Monroe, WA)

He did a trip on an 'old school' thumper. That was probably in the DIRT days. and when I should have done it. (1970's)

I would think you want some RANGE / large gas tank + good mileage. Tho I'm sure 300 miles is plenty of range, and fairly EZ on modern bikes.

I will probably use one of my Passat TDI wagons (1200 miles / fill). With MANY LONG cycle trips under my belt... I find them way too boring and I'm always falling to sleep while riding. (Even tho I take back roads). I was awake to see the Black Bear tonight. That was a nice change from Darting Deer. (Bout nabbed one of them also tonight).

I have grown accustomed to heat and wipers.

so, I've been googeling, reading a ton, and you tube videos or "I rode my motorcycle to Alaska" etc

question - can I bring a gun? I like to carry a small handgun for bears and bad guys.

Canada and all... wondering.

I would highly recommend having a copy of The MILEPOST: Alaska Travel Guide and Trip Planner . In my opinion, it's the best guide to the drive, regardless of what type of vehicle you are using.
