I have heard that when sullivan was ag that he helped get something passed that if the Nikiski land owners won't sell for the gas project that the state will take the property they want for it. some of what's going on with the Nikiski plant (& burglaries) are making the papers.

ps, i'm not currently on welfare, but am broke. i don't have a high paying o&g job. my job does pay well per hour, but it's only part time. i work while my child is in school. daycare is exorbitant. so why work more to pay someone do what i want to be doing? and trusting strangers with my child? i've had to go the daycare route before, and wasn't thrilled about it, even when subsidies helped with a big chunk of the costs. i'm renting a 2 bedroom apt from a crappy company that i can only barely afford with a roommate. and that is really borderline not afford. when my lease is up in july, if the prices don't drop on housing here in Anchorage, i'm moving to an outlying area. the problem is, Eagle River & Chugiak are becoming as expensive as Anchorage, or more expensive for land. and the commute south is dangerous in the winter.

Be sure to consider the cost of commuting from a greater distance, it is very likely that overall cost would exceed what you currently pay after the expense of fuel, wear and tear to your vehicle.

ER and Chugiak are not like commuting from the Valley into Anchorage though...

But yes, taking account the fuel mileage you get vs. savings in rent is a wise thing to do (IMHO).

I'm thinking if I move out of Anchorage it'll be to another job as I don't want to commute. Not only for the reasons above but also for the safety factor. Wrecks in winter and two hours waiting is not how I want to drive to/from home. I work with someone who lives in the valley, and they say they don't keep cars long because of the mileage and wear & tear they put on them. It would be great to be close enough to walk to work.

When I move out of Anchorage it will be to Eagle River. From the Valley to the VA is not a drive I want to do.

And that Ft. Richardson exit is great if you live in ER. Seeing as how the wife does it almost everyday... And sometimes I pick her up and drop her off at work.
