Hi -
I posted this question a while back in a Mat Su Facebook group and got a pretty good response, so I thought I'd see if I could post it here and try to beef up the responses I've gotten. My husband and I are looking to purchase a home in the Palmer/Wasilla area sometime in the next year. He's lived here since 1984, I moved here in 2011 when we got engaged. We currently live in a subdivision that GCI does not service, and we really don't like it. When we move, we have GCI access pretty high on our priority list. We both have jobs that allow us to work from home when we need to, and I currently can't take advantage of that because we have stupid satellite internet that just does not cut it. Here are the areas that I've heard GCI services for broadband internet access. If you know of a place that's not on my list, could you tell me whereabouts it is? Also, I'd rather get not get my info from GCI because I know if you call their customer service you're not likely to get reliable information because the reps just don't know. Case in point, they've told my husband "oh yeah we go to your area" and then later go "oh wait no we don't", so they don't know anything IMO.

Here's my list so far:

Mission Hills subdivision off Church
Downtown Palmer
Wasilla Fishhook / Seldon (but not our subdivision because this is where we live and we can't get it)
Shorewood off Bogard
Seldon & Lucille
Mile 7 KGB (so approximately Vine)
Wasilla Fishhook & Peck
Bogard extension (what do you think they mean by this?)
The Ranch
Fairview Loop (this should be narrowed down, that's a long stretch!)
Equestrian Acres
Serendipity Subdvision
Spruce/ Douglas
Seldon & Old Squaw
Tait & Bogard
Palmer Wasilla Highway (this is pretty broad too...can we narrow it down?)

I've also heard Settlers Bay gets it. Would that be the whole thing or just the new stuff?

It seems like if you are in the city limits of Wasilla or Palmer you're likely to be able to get it, otherwise it's a crapshoot unless you're in a certain subdivision. Correct?

Thanks in advance!

Husband refuses to deal with MTA. He hates their service in general and their customer service. Internet would frequently go out and they would not give credit for that time. GCI would at least do that so you're not paying for something you can't use. I've dealt with GCI in Anchorage a lot and know they've got issues too but I've tested working remotely on a GCI connection so I know it works for what I need.
