Here's another winter tire rating. I looked it up because I thought Hak 8s were on it but I was wrong:

Where are the Hankooks on the truck winter tire chart??

Hey Dakster, you're back. I thought you had dissappeared.
Yeah. Been a rough past 6 months...

Still don't know which tire is best for the winter in AK... And this winter is shaping up to be very different than last years.

Do you think we will get more of a typical Alaska winter this year?

Thanks so much! I have an '05 Ford Explorer with 4WD. My husband has a LandRover that looks to have studded tires where you can remove the studs. It's a new [used] car that we've only had a couple months. Thank you for your input! I appreciate your time in doing so!

Hak 8s are the best, but they are aluminum studs so make sure you have extra rims so you can put them on yourself on the first day of actual ice that sticks. I don't think they make steel studded tires anymore. I bought hak 8s with an extra set of aluminum rims 18" and it was about 2k for the set up.
