Hi, my family and I will be moving to Anchorage next year. We have time, but I'm slowly starting my research. Would love your answers/feedback on the following questions:

(1) Would it be cheaper to buy a car in the lower 48 and have it transported to Anchorage (which would be covered under moving/relocation expenses) and then winterized, or to just buy one in AK after we've moved? AK doesn't have sales tax, so perhaps it'd be cheaper there, but I wasn't sure.

(2) Anyone have experience driving a Toyota Prius in Anchorage? Doable with good snow tires and winterized? Or should we consider getting an AWD?

(3) Any recommendations on excellent childcare places in Anchorages? This would be for 2 kids under the age of 3.

Thank you!

Having an AWD in Alaska can be helpful in the winter. Its not excuse for not driving right, but it helps.
If the cost of the transporting the car would be covered, it probably would be a better idea to buy it there and have it shipped.
