For sure. You will not be lacking for attention.

Dating is always an adventure, right? Of course there are lots of losers, freaks, druggies, and STDs in AK to wind your way through.

My advice is to go for the "gainfully employed" pool of guys.

Thats probably good advice, the good guys caught in callous lay offs who are single have very likely already left. I am here but I am married. If I were single I would have already rented out this house the day after my lay off and immediately started looking for work out of state, not trying to hunt and peck through the tiny amount of jobs that come up in Anchorage lol.

This is spot on. Thank you

pitts, how about the "born and raised" Alaskans that people keep referring to? They may not want to leave the state if most of their family is still there

There are only about three percent more men in Anchorage than women (and the military base is what's responsible). I don't know why the ratio myth still survives, but whatever.

I'd run in the other direction from any young "born and raised Alaskan" who wouldn't leave the state because of family if he couldn't find suitable local employment.

I have been talking to some friends and unless someone is living off perpetual dividend payments from investments there is not much choice right now. I suppose if your in medical you might be ok but I know for me all of my applications have been out of state the last 2-3 weeks because there is nothing left to apply for.

There are a couple of isolated positions that come open but confiding how many laid off people are applying you would have to get very lucky.

The thing is is that you're asking about the dating scene in case the guy you're currently seeing won't move to Anchorage with you. I think it's fair to assume it's a serious relationship if it's even on the table that he make a major move in order to be with you. Most people don't uproot themselves and move to a place like Anchorage for a relationship unless it's serious.

You said this, too:

I am attracted to Alaska because the field I am in (Psychology) has ridiculously high salaries
So I don't think it's a stretch to assume money is a major motivator on your part.

There are loads of solid, single men in Anchorage. Many work for the oil companies for example. I'd be wary of the transient from Florida, for example, without a job or dependable source of income.
Many of those slope workers only work in Alaska.

I’ll weigh in. Anchorage area has what appears to be an abundant of single men. The dating scene appears ok in Alaska. I’m married, and I know there are many single teachers (male and female) in the bush, and once you get to the road those numbers drop.

The best way for the OP to find out what the scene is like, would be to get a job here and then discover the scene for herself.

Sure there are riff-raft here. Just like anywhere else.

WTH happened to peoples manners? The internet has traditionally been a rude, jarring place but the 2018 edition of the internet? Shiver me timbers!
