UPDATE: Woman expected to survive in early morning Anchorage shooting

ANCHORAGE, (KTUU) Police are investigating a shooting between 2 vehicles that sent one adult female to the hospital.

Around 12:30 a.m., dispatch received a report of a shooting between two vehicles at the intersection of Dimond Blvd. and Minnesota Drive.

Initial reports found a white sedan and a red SUV were driving westbound on Dimond Blvd.

Police say when the vehicles were stopped at the intersection, someone from the sedan shot the SUV multiple times and struck the driver, and both vehicles drove off.
Thanks for the detailed response. I'm sorry that's going on.

Why? Gonna chase them down?

If grand theft auto is on the rise in Anchorage then there sure must be a lot of older cars there because cars built this century are practically impossible to steal without the ignition key.

And where do you go with a stolen car? Not so ridiculous as SE, but the chances of getting caught should be fairly high.

Maybe it's the drug mules, looking for a one way ticket home to the lower 48. Desperados, for sure.

Maybe. The police don't seem to bother with it.

Mostly older cars getting stolen but no car is impossible to steal and newer ones get stolen too.

Most get recovered eventually, as you are right, it's hard to get them out of the state. However, it most likely will be trashed, have used needles in it, and generally screwed up. You may not want your car back after it has been taken.

They really need to do something that actually punishes these people. As it is now they get arrested, then let go and they go right back to stealing cars.

You're right, car theft deserves jail time-period.

Also, pampered mofos who leave their car running to warm up should break that bad habit of their own accord, without getting their car stolen. In Siberia with a diesel engine, yeah you gotta do that. In Anchorage? No.

Now there is a good idea, and it would help out the cops too.

You're greatly uninformed. I suggest you do some reading and catch up. Then you can come back and make an informed comment.

And what did I write that got your panties in a twist? Nothing uniformed about it, just questioning how and why.

Reading your first link, perhaps it will be a one year spike like the previously high year of 1994.

Mr. Hall, 53, is a soft-spoken snow-removal worker with a slight paunch, a salt-and-pepper beard and a matched set of .45 caliber pistols. In his spare time, he recovers stolen cars in Anchorage, the state’s largest city, to the occasional annoyance of the police and the cheers of just about everybody else.

Along the way, he has been shot at by a car thief, cited for reckless driving in pursuit of a stolen car, and celebrated by fans who showed up to his court case wearing “Let Floyd Go” T-shirts. A lawyer has stepped forward to represent him for free as he fights the reckless driving charge.

I love it.

I remember reading about this Floyd guy a while back. He sounds like a great Alaskan and we need more like him to help control the scum. The APD should probably hire him.
