Hey all,

I'm moving up to Anchorage in May and I'm debating whether or not to drive my Honda Civic to AK. With fuel prices it's a no brainer, my other vehicle is an older F150 p/up.

I'm trying to decide if a 2006 Honda Civic EX w/ (estimated) 53000 miles would sell in ANC. I view the 53K as a little high in the lower but reasonable, maybe a bit on the high side for AK driving? It's also got the navigation system which at this time does not work in AK.

I looked a NADA and Kelly Blue Book and it looks like it's worth about a $1000 more in Anchorage. The navigation system general gets about $1000 more so that seems like a wash. Question to you all:

Do you see a lot of Honda Civics?
Is the 53K too many miles for a vehicle up there?
Is NADA/KBB accurate w/ vehicles getting about $1000 more?

Yes, there are a lot of Honda cars and dealers in Alaska. I bought a 1987 Civic Si (first generation fuel injection) in Vermont, and shortly after drove it North to Canada, then West to near Seattle, then South to Seattle. From there I drove it North on the AK Highway, all the way to Fairbanks. I drive it to work and back each day, and the odometer shows 241,000 miles.

I have replaced the water pump one time, the brake pads and shoes every few years, wipers about every other year, spark plugs every other year (for IM testing), oil and filter every 3,000 miles, and the alternator's brush-set every couple of years. Belts every other year, and also replaced the timing belt when it reached around 150,000 miles.

Why don't you just keep it and drive it in Anchorage. Slap some studded snow tires on it in the winter and it'll take you just about anywhere you want to go.

Yes, there are a lot of Honda Civics in the Anchorage/Mat-Su area.
No, 53K is not too many miles for a vehicle in Alaska. I bought a Saturn in 2004 with 63K miles on it, and now it has 163K miles.

I can't answer for the accuracy of NADA/KBB, but $1,000 more in Alaska does not sound unreasonable. Depending on the condition of the vehicle of course.

You are a Luckydawg to have a honda civic to drive up here! Can't ask for much better gas mileage for the trip! Yep, why not keep it for Anchorage!?

I have had honda civics in the past & the only issue was ground clearance on bad deeply rutted, dirt roads. Don't take it up to the Anchorage trailhead of Rabbit Lakes. Other than that, you should be fine!
