In several of the places I've lived in the U.S. there's been household goods auctions listed that I like to attend now and then.

These aren't like auto or estate or fancy-pants auctions.. they're the kind where you can bid on a big box of who-knows-what for a dollar, or get a diningroom set for $25. I think they're goods that were left behind in storage rooms or something.. it's almost like a Goodwill sale, I suppose.

In any case.. is there something like that around Anchorage?

I think there are a couple of auction houses in Anchorage that auction off items left in storage units. You might try calling the storage companies directly and see if they are planning any auctions or who handles the auctions for them.

That's a good idea, thanks!

I know they do that here. Where I was storing my stuff a year ago, they'd post a notice about lot auctions of rooms that had been unpaid on and so forth (they had to attempt collections and give the renter so much time to respond and pay etc... before they could do it) where the guy would open the door to the unit and ask for bids. You couldn't look through it, just bid on it.

The one time I went, I bid 20$ on a closet-sized unit, and then sold almost everything out of it on eBay for almost 1k, which helped finance me for another few months of living here in the US when I couldn't find a job.

If you are trying to find a storage auction, I suggest looking in the public notice section of the newspaper. A few websites have also popped up listing them as well (e.g., www.RummageMarketplace.com). I am sure if you google it you will find them as well.
