I don't know Anchorage at all but you really are to be commended for not wanting to drink and drive.

Probably the reason he wouldn't want to stock his fridge with booze is because he wants to enjoy the company of other young people while partaking of tasty beverages.

No, not a thing.

I'd stay away from 4th Ave. if I were the O.P. Like I've said I don't know Anchorage except for the airport but you'd think there would be an area that has a few decent restaurants and bars that aren't dumps.

Google map Chilkoot Charlie's bar and then google map apartments on West Northern Lights, Anchorage. There are a lot of condos and apartments in that area, like The Castle. Blues Central is another bar in the same neighborhood.

I'm not a bar person, so I can't tell you what kind of bars these are or if there are other bars in that Spenard area so I will leave that to others.

I am a 26 year old dude thinking about making the move to Anchorage and am looking for a lively place to live. I prefer it be walking distance to bars and restaurants. Where do most young single professionals live in Anchorage?

I like to buy, but rather have a house than a condo. Is this even possible?

I currently live in Santa Monica and am more into the bar than club scene. Places resembing Main Street in Santa Monica, Old Town in Pasadena, or North Beach in SF would be ideal. Any suggestions would definitely help.

Thanks!!!
I used to live on 10th and Colorado Ave. in Santa Monica, and I can safely say that Anchorage and Santa Monica have only one thing in common: They are both located near the ocean. Unlike Santa Monica, you will not be swimming in the waters around Anchorage, at least by choice.

If Santa Monica or Pasadena are what you would prefer, then you should stay in Santa Monica or Pasadena. Do not make the mistake of moving to Alaska to try to make it like where you left. You will only succeed in making yourself, and everyone around you, miserable.
