My sister and I were both born in Fairbanks, AK. Neither one of our parents had been from the state and eventually we moved back to their hometown of Macomb, MI, with a couple years in NC before that. I only remember a little but we went on a vacation there a couple years ago and after we came home I KNEW I had to get back there when I graduate.
My senior year is rapidly approaching and I'm looking at colleges. I know that in the long run I want to be back in Alaska. I want the mountains and the beauty everyday. But I also want the mid-sized town feel that I'm used too. I'm confused on if I should go to college in Alaska or move there after.
I need someone to help me.
My dad says that he knew I would want to go back. When he was little his parents moved him from his hometown (Macomb, MI) and he ended up comming back after living in like 16 states or something crazy like that.
I just know I want to be there after I graduate, or maybe even go there for college. My parents seem on board with it. My mom says she can't wait to come visit me and is sorry she ever left once she got the chance to be there. Someone please give some advice. Any and all stories/points of view are appreiciated!!
Thanks! - Maddie.

Your folk's story is a common one. Most who have lived here and tried to move outside tend to keep hearing Alaska call them back.

If UAF supports your major and curriculum choices then you should really consider moving back. Even moving to Anchorage and attending UAA would get you much closer although you'd lose the smaller town appeal.

This is the best time to do it! I, too, answered the call back to Alaska. I was born in Fairbanks. I'm only in Anchorage for my job. Miss it up there!

i'm leaning towards the same thing about wanting to possibly go to school there or live after. It'd be a dream to go and live in the last frontier, to just experience a new sort of life.
