Hey, we just moved here. Looking for some lakes or areas to swim. Not so much public pools but parks that are swimming accessible.

Independence Lake is probably your best bet. It's about 15 minutes from Ypsilanti up US-23 (just north of Ann Arbor).

In Ypsi, the river is the only non-pool place to swim that i know of. If you want to swim in a relatively clean lake, I woudl suggest maybe the Hell area. You can swim at Delhi Metropark, but that is no different than just swimming int he river in Ypsi. Best option for the river IMO is to rent a canoe and paddle along until you find a nice swimming hole. I have seen people swimming int he water at that little park in Depot Town, but I do not know whether it is legal to do so. Swimming from a canoe, they are not likely to ticket you anywhere. "Oh I fell out" "It tipped over" . . . .

Try Pickerel Lake, a very nice lake off of Hankerd Road and North Territorial. Pinckney Recreation area also has places to swim. Most are NW of Ann Arbor. Not sure about the Huron River swimming-wise.

Explore the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. Delhi is the closest. I vaguely recall Kensington offering more than Delhi or Hudson Mills, but I haven't been there in over 30 years.
